Ellie Young and Steve Young have a shared interest in the figure, particularly groups or crowds of spectators and most obviously in the use of cut out or awkwardly framed images and in the use of broken perspective, odd angles of view and sudden changes of scale. In both bodies of work there is a strong narrative undercurrent. There are however radical stylistic differences, for example Ellie’s fearless, fast-paced and dramatic approach as opposed to Steve’s more reflective, slow-paced, relatively low-key way of working.
