Simon creates animated sculptures. His dogs use expressive archetypes and can sometimes appear cartoonish. He animates them using often quite crude mechanical means and also sometimes very specialised technology such as computer robotics. The computer control systems that he incorporates inside the animals are designed to reflect the voluntary and the involuntary reflexes that both humans and animals share. His animals replicate movements and sounds both conscious and reflexive, their behaviour is impulsive, habitual and they become attention seeking, unnerving and disarmingly familiar.
