Both these artists share a highly particular vision for their respective paintings. Both are interested in the fictional possibilities of representation, in which various aspects of the world are not taken for granted. Spatial displacements, ambiguities of scale and nervy relationships are all set in place. These apparent disruptions are finally settled by the artists attention to the expressive potential of the painted surface and how this both establishes authority as well as an elegant cohesiveness.
